The Value of Owning a URL

iamsincere Sencera Bright | February, 19 2008 | 1 Talkbacks(s)

As I consult with clients about the value of new media and cross promoting on various sites I often am perplexed to find out that so many don't have their own url. If you have one million friends each on 5 different social networks your in business right? Well maybe. What if you have a cumulative 5 million fans/friends/business connections and the site owner has shut down your account because of some unforeseen reason? You are then faced with the lose of millions of people who support your company or product. All of the long nights you've spent adding friends/connections is lost. And to add to that you have no way to present your stats to record company's, investors, sponsors, potential partners, etc. So we come to a solution, register your own url. Here is why:1. Run all of your traffic through one url2. Track who your audience is3. List all of your social networking sites on your url4. Accurately represent your users/fans/customers to Advertisers and sponsors. 5. Encourage your users to sign up for updates and newslettersIncrease the value in your brand.
